ABOUT THE ISLAND
Himmafushi in a few words
Himmafushi is one of the closest local islands to Velana Airport, which makes it the easiest first taste of Maldivian island life. You can land, take a short boat ride and be on the island within the hour.
It is a working community with a fish processing company, a boat-building yard and a bottling plant. Over the years it has become best known among surfers, because some of North Malé Atoll's best-known breaks are a short boat ride away.

Surf season
The main season in North Malé Atoll runs from around April or May to September, with the biggest swells from June to September. Out of season it is calmer, with smaller waves for beginners.
Beach and snorkelling
The island has a designated beach area for visitors, and its guesthouses run snorkelling and dolphin trips, as well as trips to nearby sandbanks and resort islands.
Island life
You can walk the whole island in less than an hour, watch the boat builders and fishermen at work, and meet the community. It is a real village rather than a resort.
HOW TO GET THERE
Reaching Himmafushi
Ferry and speedboat times change by season and by day. Share your flight and we confirm the right transfer for your dates.
Himmafushi is reached only by boat. Scheduled speedboats connect it with Malé in roughly 20 minutes and with the airport in roughly 45 minutes, depending on the boat and route.
Private speedboats from the airport jetty are available for late arrivals, groups and early departures. We arrange whichever suits your flight.
- Himmafushi is a local island: dress modestly in the village and swim in swimwear only at the visitor beach.
- No alcohol is sold or served on the island.
- Surf spots are reached by boat and the reef is shallow in places. Go with a local guide or your guesthouse boat, never alone.
- Friday is the weekly prayer day, with shops and cafés closing around midday prayers.
GOOD TO KNOW
Before you go
- Because it is so close to the airport, Himmafushi works well for a short stay at the start or end of a longer trip.
- Bring reef shoes if you plan to surf or walk the reef, and a rash vest for sun protection.
- Boat transfers can be bumpy in the south-west monsoon (roughly May to October). If you are sensitive to the sea, ask us about the calmest option.
- Carry a little cash for small shops, and a refillable bottle (drink bottled or filtered water).
