White Sand Dhigurah

White Sand Dhigurah is a guesthouse on Dhigurah, a local island in Alif Dhaal (South Ari Atoll). The island sits in the South Ari Marine Protected Area, which is known for snorkelling with whale sharks. Rooms are air-conditioned, with flat-screen satellite TV and private bathrooms, and some add an open-air shower, a bathtub or a Jacuzzi. Dhigurah's white sandy beach is an easy walk away. The guesthouse has its own restaurant, a tour desk and a PADI dive centre, so trips and dives are simple to arrange from the front door. It suits couples, divers and anyone who wants big marine life with village life around them, and rooftop Suites for those who want more space.

Stays are offered on Bed & Breakfast, Half Board or Full Board. The on-site restaurant serves Maldivian, Asian and Western dishes: a buffet breakfast with a live egg station, lunch on the rooftop and a buffet dinner each night with live cooking stations. Free Wi-Fi, safety deposit boxes, bicycle rental, laundry and a tour desk are available.

The main draw is snorkelling with whale sharks, and manta snorkelling trips also run. The guesthouse arranges sandbank picnics with a barbecue, dolphin and sunset cruises, night fishing, sport fishing and water sports. Its PADI dive centre teaches everything from Discover Scuba to Divemaster.

Dhigurah is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Velana Airport by speedboat, or a 20-minute domestic flight to Maamigili. Seaplane transfers are also possible.
